About the area
The Waranga Western Channel is known as a 'common water supply system'. This means that it supplies multiple distributions systems. The Waranga Western Channel sources water primarily from the Goulburn River at Goulburn Weir, and is supplemented by the Campaspe and Loddon Rivers. The major supply channels of Stuart Murray Canal and Cattenach Canal are included in the channel.
This channel supplies non-potable water to the Central Goulburn, Rochester and Loddon Valley irrigation areas. It also supplies water to three domestic and stock areas and to Bendigo and Ballarat via the Goldfields Superpipe.
The Waranga basin, a substantial off-stream storage, is also included in the accounting for the channel.
This system is supplied by Goulburn-Murray Water.
