About the area

South East Water is one of Melbourne’s three retail water corporations. It obtains treated bulk water from Melbourne Water and operates a single, integrated water supply system covering south-east Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and part of South Gippsland.

2022-23 overview

Urban deliveries

150,949 ML of urban residential and non-residential deliveries were made in 2022-23, similar to the previous year (155,079 ML).

Wastewater recycled at treatment plants

20% of wastewater was recycled (2,967 ML of 14,944 ML), similar to 25% in 2021-22.

Urban systems

South East Water operates one urban water supply system. Water is sourced from the Bunyip, Goulburn, Thomson and Yarra basins.

Recycled water

Water recycled at wastewater treatment plants can be used to supplement water available in river basins. Table 2 lists the wastewater treatment plants managed by South East Water. Water discharged to the environment from treatment plants is included as an inflow to the water balance for each of the river basins.
