About the area
- Central Highlands Water supplies water to the greater Ballarat region and to numerous other localities from Ballan in the east to Landsborough and Navarre in the north-west and Rokewood in the south, covering an area of 9,275 km2. Water supply systems are spread north and south of the Great Dividing Range.
- Water services are provided to roughly 161,000 people via 15 separate water supply systems.

2021-22 overview
Urban deliveries
15,126 ML of urban residential and non-residential deliveries were made in 2021-22, slightly higher than the previous year (13,725 ML).
Wastewater recycled at treatment plants
15% of wastewater was recycled (1,946 ML of 12,964 ML).

Recycled water
Water recycled at wastewater treatment plants can be used to supplement water available in river basins. Table 2 below lists the wastewater treatment plants managed by Central Highlands Water. Water discharged to the environment from treatment plants is included as an inflow to the water balance for each of the river basins.
The Essential Services Commission made some changes to recycled water data categories in 2021-22, so we have not included a comparison to 2020-21 in the table below.
