About the area
- Westernport Water supplies towns and adjacent properties on Phillip Island, and on the eastern shore of Western Port from The Gurdies to Dalyston, servicing an area of 300 km2.
- Westernport Water supplies upwards of 22,000 customers across 27 townships.
- Water is sourced from:
- Candowie Reservoir, a storage on Tennant Creek in the South Gippsland river basin
- direct diversion from the Bass River
- Corinella Aquifer via three groundwater bores.
- Water is treated at Candowie Reservoir and passed to the San Remo storage basin, from which it is delivered via a single, integrated water supply system.

2021-22 overview
Urban deliveries
2,489 ML of urban residential and non-residential deliveries were made in 2021-22, similar to the previous year (2,305 ML in 2020-21).
Wastewater recycled at treatment plants
18% of wastewater was recycled (305 ML of 1,695 ML).

Westernport Water operates one urban supply system. Water is sourced from the South basin.

Recycled water
Water recycled at wastewater treatment plants can be used to supplement water available in river basins. Table 2 below lists the wastewater treatment plants managed by Westernport Water. Water discharged to the environment from treatment plants is included as an inflow to the water balance for each of the river basins.
The Essential Services Commission made some changes to recycled water data categories in 2021-22, so we have not included a comparison to 2020-21 in the table below.
