About the area
- Yarra Valley Water is one of Melbourne’s 3 retail water corporations. It services upwards of 2 million people and 60,000 businesses across a 4,000 km2 area, from Wallan in the north to Warburton in the east.
- Yarra Valley Water obtains treated bulk water from Melbourne Water and operates a single, integrated water supply system covering the part of greater Melbourne that is in the Yarra basin, extending to Warburton in the east and Wallan in the north.

2021-22 overview
Urban deliveries
150,850 ML of urban residential and non-residential deliveries were made in 2021-22, similar to the previous year (149,492 ML in 2020-21).
Wastewater recycled at treatment plants
12% of wastewater was recycled (1,310 ML of 11,127 ML).

Recycled water
Water recycled at wastewater treatment plants can be used to supplement water available in river basins. Table 2 below lists the wastewater treatment plants managed by Yarra Valley Water. Water discharged to the environment from treatment plants is included as an inflow to the water balance for each of the river basins.
The Essential Services Commission made some changes to recycled water data categories in 2021-22, so we have not included a comparison to 2020-21 in the table below.
