About the area

The Frankston Groundwater Management Area (GMA) covers sand aquifers with basalt layers. It is located in the outer south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne and includes the major urban centres of Frankston, Seaford, Hampton Park and Carrum Downs.

The water authority responsible for managing groundwater in the Frankston GMA is Southern Rural Water.

The Frankston GMA Local Management Plan applies to groundwater resources for all formations below the surface.

Estimated domestic and stock use is calculated based on an assumed usage per registered bore per year. In this GMA, 1.5 ML usage per bore per year is assumed.
