About the area
The Rosedale Groundwater Management Area (GMA) covers a confined sand aquifer with silt, clays and coals, where it partially underlies the Wa De Lock GMA and Sale Water Supply Protection Area (WSPA), fully underlies the Denison GMA, and fully overlies the Stratford GMA. The GMA boundary lies within the Central Gippsland and Seaspray groundwater catchments.
The water authority responsible for managing groundwater in the Rosedale GMA is Southern Rural Water.
The Rosedale GMA Local Management Plan details 3 management zones, in which the plan applies to groundwater resources for all formations at various depths:
- between 50 m to 150 m below the surface in zone 1
- between 25 m to 350 m below the surface in zone 2
- between 200 m to 300 m below the surface in zone 3.

Groundwater level trends
In 2023-24, a trendfor the Rosedale GMA could not be determined towards the end of the year due to data availability, but was declining in the prior quarter to December 2023.

Groundwater restrictions
There were no restrictions on licensed use in the Rosedale GMA in 2023-24.
Entitlements and use
Groundwater entitlements have been issued for licensed (non-urban) use and power generation use in the Rosedale GMA. Groundwater is also available for domestic and stock use.

Available water and take
The table below shows the total water available and taken under entitlements, and estimated domestic and stock use in 2023-24. Total water available under entitlements is the sum of opening carryover, allocation issued and the net trade in or out of water.
Estimated domestic and stock use is calculated based on an assumed usage per registered bore per year. In this GMA, the assumed usage is 1.5 ML usage per bore per year.

Compliance
Compliance against water entitlements is reported for this groundwater management unit in one area:
- water extracted: that the volume of water taken under entitlements during the year does not exceed the total water available to licence holders.
Key points on compliance against entitlements
Current PCV compliance assessment criteria are not applicable in the Rosedale GMA. Some licences are located in the footprint of the Rosedale GMA, however due to a lack of clarity about the inter-aquifer behaviour of resources it is not possible to assign or assess licence volume and extraction against the GMA.
All licensed users within the Rosedale GMA footprint are compliant with their licence conditions including licensed volumes. All changes to licence volumes were made with appropriate approvals.

The total volume extracted under licences (10,979 ML) was within the volume available for the year (23,365 ML).
