About the area
Central Highlands Water supplies water to the greater Ballarat region and to numerous other localities from Ballan in the east to Landsborough and Navarre in the north-west and Rokewood in the south, covering an area of 9,275 km2. Water supply systems are spread north and south of the Great Dividing Range.
Water services are provided to roughly 189,000 people via 15 separate water supply systems.

2024-25 overview
Urban deliveries
16,516 ML of urban residential and non-residential deliveries were made in 2024-25, similar to the previous year (15,057 ML in 2023-24).
Wastewater recycled at treatment plants
19% of wastewater was recycled (2,061 ML of 10,881 ML), similar to 18% in 2023-24.

Recycled water
Water recycled at wastewater treatment plants can be used to supplement water available in river basins. Table 2 lists the wastewater treatment plants managed by Central Highlands Water. Water discharged to the environment from treatment plants is included as an inflow to the water balance for each of the river basins.
