About the area
South Gippsland Water supplies 21 rural centres in South Gippsland from Wonthaggi in the west to Yarram and Alberton in the east. It operates 8 separate urban water supply systems and covers a total area of about 1,500 km2.

2024-25 overview
Urban deliveries
5,068 ML of urban residential and non-residential deliveries were made in 2024-25, more than the previous year (4,510 ML).
Wastewater recycled at treatment plants
7% of wastewater was recycled (239 ML of 3,193 ML), the same amount as during 2023-24.

Recycled water
Water recycled at wastewater treatment plants can be used to supplement water available in river basins. Table 2 lists the wastewater treatment plants managed by South Gippsland Water. Water discharged to the environment from treatment plants is included as an inflow to the water balance for each of the river basins.
